  Welcome to Lake Bayano!

Home to an amazing variety of wildlife, including rarely-seen bird species, Lake Bayano is one of Panama's most fantastic treasures, but it is also one of Panama's least known areas: eastern Panama province.  Despite being only an hour's drive from Panama City, the great majority of Panamanians are as unfamiliar with Lake Bayano's beauty as the thousands of tourists arriving every week.

LakeBayano.com is dedicated to introducing the lake and its natural beauty to people in Panama and around the world.  We hope you enjoy what we have to offer, but we also hope that you will get in your car and come and see for yourself

Special Announcement: The village of Cañita will hold a drum competition on Saturday, 14 August, on the grounds of the Jardín lo Nuestro and Casa Comunal beginning at 3:30 pm. Competion will be in two categories - one for youth of 12 to 17 years of age and one for adults of 18 to 50 years of age. Following judging, prizes will be rewarded. In the evening, a fiesta queen will be chosen. It is going to be great fun in this town just a short distance from the shores of Lake Bayano! LakeBayano.com and its owner, Panama Wave S.A., are proud to be sponsors for this competition!

Special News: A group of non-profits and community organizations held a very successful Tribute to Ramon "Monchi" Castro, a leading folklorist and a native of Llano de Chepo, on 24 July in the city of Chepo. We were there and are pleased to offer you a video of one of the folk dances performed during the festival. You can find other videos in our video gallery.

We are pleased that one of Panama's leading newspapers, Panamá América, chose to feature Lake Bayano as the nation's premier "Summer Destination - 2010" in its bi-weekly travel magazine, Rumbos! They also provide an Internet version.

We are also pleased to announce that Lake Bayano won a special public referendum to choose the ten "marvels" of Panama. Lake Bayano was voted more popular than Panama Vieja (the ruins of the original Panama City) or the National Park of Campana. Check out all the winners for each province here.
